DESCRIPTION

This is a streamlined VR-compatible port of BrinaSair's excellent Undiscovered Means Unknown mod for Skyrim SE, created with permission. Please toss that mod an endorsement if you like this one.

This mod is for players who don't want to have their sense of surprise ruined by knowing exactly what is around the next hill. It will replace all of the undiscovered compass location icons with identical '?' markers. You'll know there's something hiding over there worth checking out, but not whether it's an abandoned castle or a cave, a bandit camp or a bear den. Towns and cities still appear as normal.

INSTALLATION

Download and install with the mod manager of your choice or extract to your \data directory. Contains no scripts and no esps; it's safe to add or remove at any point.

COMPATIBILITY

This mod edits the file vr_hmd_info.swf and so will be incompatible with any other mod that also alters that file (Less HUD VR for instance). This is the VR version of the file that contains compass icons as well as other HUD components. At the time of creation, none of the SSE icon overhauls function with VR as SE icons are in hudmenu.gfx. If at some point those are converted over to VR, a compatibility patch will be needed to replace their undiscovered icon sets.

SKYUI VR - Compatible

This should be compatible with mods that add additional locations such as Atlas Map Markers - (by kronixx) - as long as they use the base icon categories.

VERSIONS

Currently 1 version: replaces the undiscovered location icons with a generic symbol and also removes the cardinal direction headings (N,S,E,W).

Including this version as it's what I created for personal use. If there's interests (and time), I may add others that remove the enemy red dot indicators, retain the cardinal directions, or remove undiscovered icons entirely (though stripped down passed a certain point and you might as well just hide the compass entirely). 

RECOMMENDED MODS

Equip-able Maps SE - HIGHLY recommended. Adds an in-game world map that can be equipped in your shield slot. Now with no compass headings, it's surprisingly easy to get turned around in a frantic fight so you'll need to rely on your in-game map and visible landmarks to orient yourself and navigate.

HQ Skyrim Map V2 - If you're going to be spending time lost with your nose in a map, it should at least look good.

Point The Way - Populates Skyrim's roads with very helpful road signs pointing to the major cities and holds.

Any of the many tree overhauls that enlarge and thicken the forests. Helps to obscure distant landmarks.

Note: at the time of creation, no way had been found to remove the player location from the VR 3D world map. Players looking for the most immersive experience just have to refrain from peeking and rely solely on in-game maps. Or stated as a feature, your location will still be marked on the 3D world map if you get hopelessly lost.
