Masks With All Robes and Hoods或WACCF)。

Elder Scrolls

[/ size]

Sorting mods are great, but sometimes they don't really help you find the items that matter. If they do, they use all sorts of immersion-breaking brackets and symbols.  What can you do?!

IFS: Immersion-Friendly Sorting!

After years of using every sorting mod under the sun, and numerous attempts at making my own incomplete sorting mods for internal use, I finally reached a point where I felt I could upload a complete sorting mod that doesn't make me feel like I'm looking at programming code. As an educator (and a crazed OCD collector/organizer), I also wanted to make use of grammatical marks to explain, not separate. (This might not make sense at first; just trust me, I know what I'm doing.)

Instead of symbols to separate, extra s are used quite liberally. Since s are sorted before letters and symbols (and not an eyesore), you'll find things quicker knowing they are grouped! Items that are generally used more often are given more s (gold and lock picks have four s) to put them at the top of the loot listing.

Items are grouped intuitively, keeping things easier to find. No more hunting through loot to find the important stuff. One word to list them; s to keep them organized. Similar item types have the same number of leading s.

The only symbols used are the colon (:), n-dash (-), tilde (~), and the asterisk (*). Colons are used for "type of" statements (like analogies in grammar); n-dashes are used for item effects; tildes mark quest-generated items (it sorts last); and, asterisks are for special items (sorts first).

Note: special items (*) retain their original names, unless it needed a change for better sorting.

Weapons

Weapons are now sorted by type, not material (ex. Greatsword: Ebony). If I have the perks for greatswords, I want to see all the greatswords together, not scroll through a bunch of slow daedric warhammers! Ordering by skill type (using s) is based around the idea that a player would start with ranged, switch to one-handed, and finish with heavy hitting two-handers.

Ammunition is listed first, since you are more likely to change ammo mid-fight.

Ranged weapons (bows, crossbows, staves) are listed next.

One-handed weapons come next, because I figured they would be changed or used for dual-wielding more often than two-handed weapons.

Two-handed weapons are last. They just don't get switched that often.

Armor

Armor doesn't have sub-skill separation like weapons. You just want to know if it's light, heavy, cloth, or a shield, and if it is a set. Now it is!

Shields are first, since you might switch these during combat.

Cloth, light, and heavy armors share the same sorting level (s). You are only going to use one type at a time, if you're heavily invested in an armor skill. Armor is then sorted by material types, keeping matching sets together. It really just makes sense.

Jewelry is last, since these are less likely to be switched during combat (and because I didn't think they warranted a higher order). Circlets are listed here (I use mods that let you wear them under hoods, since this makes sense - Circlets or Masks With All Robes and Hoods or WACCF).

Potions & Poisons

Potions and poisons are easy to organize. Since I spend a lot of time making money off alchemy, I wanted to make them easier to sell. This may seem selfish when making a sorting mod, but it also makes sense.

Custom potions and poisons are listed first. Custom potions can be more powerful than standard potions, making them more likely to be used in combat.

Restore Health/Magicka/Stamina and Cure Disease/Poison are listed before all other standard potions. They are used way more often. Thieves Guild Potions and The White Phial are listed here as well.

Standard potions and poisons are listed last. Leveled potions are now ordered by effect and level (Potion: Regenerate Health III). Non-standard potions (Ice Wraith Bane/Essence) are given asterisks to denote their status as non-standard.

Spells & Powers

Spells are listed by skill and level, then name (Des II: Firebolt). Only a few spell names are changed for sorting, namely runes (Rune, Frost) and cloaks (Cloak, Frost). I refrained from further changes to keep the names immersion/lore friendly.

Shouts are listed first for frequent use.

Higher Powers come next, as they are powerful, and listed by type (Stone, Racial, etc.).

Lesser Powers are grouped by type (Vampire, Lesser Power)

Spells are last, since they are listed separate from powers and shouts in the spell book.

Note: active effects are not changed. I may add this later.

Enchantments

Weapon and armor enchants are now separate. "Wpn:" & "Arm:" denote weapon and armor enchants, respectively. Special weapon enchants (Lunar Damage, Fiery Soul Trap, etc) have been given the asterisk. This may seem pointless, but it speeds up the process when enchanting a lot of stuff.

Scrolls

Scrolls are simple. Only a couple scrolls are considered special (J'zargo's Flame Cloak, Shalidor's Insights). Everything else simply reads Scroll: Spell. No skill or level is listed, since you don't need to think about magicka usage.

Note: I might consider adding the skill type to these. I need to do some more research.

Food & Drink

Food and drink was a real doozy. In vanilla, you get raw meat mixed in the same area as expensive liquors. This doesn't help. Now it's made easy! Food is "Food:" and drinks are "Drink:". The only extra sorting is based on whether it is needed for cooking/baking, or just plain useful/valuable (some drinks are worth more than 100g!).

Expensive Drinks are sorted first. Good for sale.

Player-baked/-cooked foods are next. I just like to keep them separate for the sake of knowing I can make more.

Raw foods and anything used in recipes sort next. There is method to the madness here.

Everything else. If it isn't used for anything else, it's here.

Ingredients

Specifically, this is alchemy ingredients. I use a lot of out-of-game tools for alchemy, since it is my prime money maker, so changing the names makes this a lot more time-consuming. That said, I didn't really change anything other than adding an affix (Alch:). They sort together, which is what matters.

Books, Journals, Notes, Recipes, Tomes

This is probably the biggest time-killer of this whole endeavor. They are separated with simple affixes: Book; Journal; Note; Tome. The real pain is that these aren't easy to change en mass. If there are errors, they are likely here. Titles were changed to reflect the better naming used by Book Covers Skyrim. This section will likely be changed, since Journals and Notes require a lot more work.

Elder Scrolls get their own special at the top, just because I could. They're not really useful for anything but quests, I just think they're important (the games are named for them).

Special Books (Black Books and the Ohgma Infinium) get special treatment to make it easier to jump back to Apocrypha and change those powers.

Everything else. 'Nuff said.

Note: Books that add to skills and quests have "(Skill name)" and "(Quest)" added to the end of the title. This keeps the books sorting properly.

Keys

Even the keys are sorted! And by sorted, they are just marked as "Key:". All "Key to" and so-and-so's "key" have been removed. It was redundant.

Miscellaneous

The word "Miscellaneous" is a nightmare, and so is the sorting. During testing, I changed this section more often than any other, maybe all others combined. Lots and lots of sorting here.

Gold, lockpicks, and torches are in a sorting level all their own. They are the most useful, and I can never have enough.

Filled soul gems, and crafting materials, specifically, the items that are already processed for crafting. Ingots, Leather, maybe some other stuff I forget; they're here near the top.

Empty soul gems, and raw crafting materials come next. Ore, Hides (everything is now called a hide, which is technically correct), gems, bones, chitin, Dwemer scrap... if it's used in crafting and not processed, it should be here.

Everything else is here, but they are sorted by types. Clutter, Unique items, pointless Bones, etc. A lot of this could probably be split into more categories, but it just doesn't make sense. Most quest items are listed under "Unique" so as to keep it from being overrun with tildes. Also, many quest items can be pick-pocketed back, and tildes are eye sores.

Other Stuff

Many other little changes were made to ensure items would sort. Changes were made to quest items that are just renames of regular items (Aela's Shield, Fresh Meat). There's probably more stuff I'm forgetting.

Requirements

IFS has only one requirement:

Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - There is no reason for a modded SSE not to be using this. Changes are carried over into IFS.

That said, IFS has a couple highly recommended mods:

SkyUI - Without this, some of the names will be too long to read.[/size]

Wrye Bash - Not a mod, per se, but the Bashed Patch will pick up the names from IFS, as long as they are sorted. This will be essential with future mod patches.

Accolades

Without these tools and mods, IFS would never have been possible (or it would have taken months to make).

SSEEdit Tool

Auto Patching - VIS - JOP - Disenchant All - Weightless xEdit script for massive renaming

Automation Tools for TES5Edit xEdit scripts for fine-tuning naming

Valdacil's Item Sorting Mod used as inspiration

Notepad++ Tool for script editing

If anything I've done is considered "taking without permission," please let me know. I don't remember everything I have worked on, but it should only be record edits.

Recommendations

It is only "constructive" criticism if you provide possible solutions; otherwise it's just complaining.

I welcome suggestions for improving IFS; but I am also a teacher, and cannot abide whining. If you don't like IFS, that's fine--don't download it! If you want to tell me you hate it, find something better to do with your time.

If I forgot something, please let me know.

Future Plans

During the development of IFS, numerous patches were made for numerous mods. These patches will be added as they are revised and corrected. Any patches not listed can be made/suggested by other users.

Patches in the near future:

Creation Club Content

Cutting Room Floor

Weapons Armor Clothing and Clutter Fixes
