Many of you have probably had steam auto-download the new update already, and if you don't have SkyrimSE Auto-Backup then you are pretty much screwed right?

Nope. 

Before you start

some prerequisites.

I highly recommend you change the download settings for Skyrim Special Edition on Steam, that way it won't automatically update right away and this will give you time to back up the .exe the next time an update happens.

You can do this by going into your steam library and right clicking on Skyrim Special Edition. Going into properties. In the updates tab. 

Make sure automatic updates is set to "Only update this game when I launch it."

Now you should run the game through the skse_loader.exe. Or you can rename it to SkyrimSELauncher.exe (BACK UP YOUR OLD LAUNCHER) if you want to run it through steam still.

Steps:

1a. Click this: steam://open/console and open with Steam Client Bootstrapper

or

1b. Press Windows Key + R and type the following into run: steam://open/console

2. Click on console, go to the bottom where you can type and then paste the following:

3. Hit enter and wait, after a little while it should be complete and show you where it downloaded the old .exe to. Make note of this location. This is what it looked like for me:

4. Replace the .exe and you are done!
